HIVES

Hives, or Urticaria, is an allergic reaction anywhere on the skin that presents with red, itchy, often raised welts that vary in size from half of a centimetre to a few centimetres. Occasionally it is accompanied by swelling in the lips, eyelids, and throat.

Hives are a common but

When acute, hives are a common but severe skin reaction caused by known allergens in foods, pollens, bee venom, medications, heat or cold exposure, sunlight, and exercise. Lung and throat swelling is treated with antihistamines, steroids, and bronchodilators (when symptoms of swelling in them accompany them). Most cases of hives will run their course in 24 – 48 hrs. More rarely, acute attacks may take a week to a few weeks to resolve.

In chronic cases

In chronic cases, defined by hives lasting more than six weeks, the causes become less clear. Stress, hormones, parasites, infections, autoimmune diseases (thyroiditis, Type 1 diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis) and chemical exposure can sometimes be the hidden culprits but are not always present. Therefore, treatment is similar to acute cases with an emphasis on finding the hidden causes and limiting exposure to them.

The disease is not important. The “patient” is important, because the patient has created the disease. The cause is in the patient; the disease is only a symptom. You can change the symptom, and another symptom will come up. You can force this disease by drugs, you can stop its expression, but then the disease will assert itself somewhere else and with more danger, more force – with a vengeance. So we will feel the “patient.” As we all aware education and experience equality important. But most important to get in tune with the “patient” and find the cause using both western and eastern medicine. We care and will build a rapport; and create a bridge on your healing journey!

    Traditional Chinese Medicine describes

Traditional Chinese Medicine describes hives as “wind heat toxins manifesting in the skin.” Multiple agents and issues cause hives; typically, Chinese herbs, acupuncture, moxa, lifestyle counselling, and diet therapy are used to treat them. Acupuncture, moxa, and herbs address the acute signs and symptoms, like itching and wheels, and can be surprisingly effective. As a result, these modalities help resolve acute hives more quickly.

    Diet therapy and lifestyle

Diet therapy and lifestyle counselling are used to address the hidden sources that help perpetuate a chronic reaction. This long-term approach reduces the frequency and severity of flare-ups. However, the time frame for the complete course of treatment will vary based on what a person is reacting to and their ability to avoid it, autoimmune issues, metabolism, and overall health.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is an excellent treatment option for hives and is well worth considering if you suffer from this problem. Contact me, and we can figure out a solution!
