BACK PAIN/SCIATICA

Sciatic Nerve Pain: Back pain is a common health problem

The sciatic nerve is the largest in humans, originating in the lower back and travelling posteriorly through the lower limb as far down as the heel of the foot. The sciatic nerve innervates a significant portion of the thigh, leg, and foot skin and muscles.

Why Sciatica happens?

The nerve originates from the ventral rami of spinal nerves L4 through S3 and contains fibres posterior and anterior divisions of the lumbosacral plexus. After leaving the lower vertebrae, the nerve fibres converge to form a single nerve. Just before reaching the popliteal fossa, it divides into two important branches. One branch is the tibial nerve, which continues to descend in the posterior compartment of the leg and foot. The other branch is a common nerve, which travels down the lateral and anterior chambers of the leg and foot.

What are the signs of Sciatica?

Sciatica is a syndrome involving nerve root pinched or inflammation that has progressed sufficiently to cause nerve and neurology symptoms. The most important signs include unilateral leg pain radiating to the foot or toes that is greater than low back pain and often associated with paresthesia, numbness, and weakness of the leg; it may involve increased pain on straight leg raising and neurological symptoms limited to one nerve root. Sciatica may be sudden in onset and may subsequently persist for days or weeks.

The disease is not important. The “patient” is important, because the patient has created the disease. The cause is in the patient; the disease is only a symptom. You can change the symptom, and another symptom will come up. You can force this disease by drugs, you can stop its expression, but then the disease will assert itself somewhere else and with more danger, more force – with a vengeance. So we will feel the “patient.” As we all aware education and experience equality important. But most important to get in tune with the “patient” and find the cause using both western and eastern medicine. We care and will build a rapport; and create a bridge on your healing journey!

    CHINESE MEDICINE AND SCIATICA

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) sees Sciatica as an imbalance in the body. While this refers more to the body’s energy pathways, Sciatica is caused by an imbalance— usually a herniated disk. TCM, therefore, has three different treatment options for Sciatica. TCM practitioners determine which treatment is right case-by-case, ensuring that the patient gets the correct medicine for their situation.
