Acupuncture for IVF: When to start treatment?

Anxiety Treatment

Let's back up and talk about dosage:

Usually, acupuncture is combined with other treatments to treat various symptoms. Much like exercise, it is best done regularly and frequently. Dosing is determined by each couple’s situation and cycle type to provide maximum benefit during specific periods.

The disease is not important. The “patient” is important, because the patient has created the disease. The cause is in the patient; the disease is only a symptom. You can change the symptom, and another symptom will come up. You can force this disease by drugs, you can stop its expression, but then the disease will assert itself somewhere else and with more danger, more force – with a vengeance. So we will feel the “patient.” As we all aware education and experience equality important. But most important to get in tune with the “patient” and find the cause using both western and eastern medicine. We care and will build a rapport; and create a bridge on your healing journey!

    MUST KNOW ACUPUNCTURE POINTS

This treatment schedule is based on protocols used in clinical trials, which demonstrate increased blood supply to the uterus and ovaries and a beneficial regulation of hormones which may be essential to follicle development and implantation. A significant increase in pregnancy rates was reported in these trials also.

     Schedule:

The optimal treatment schedule is two treatments per week for four weeks plus one treatment at the time of embryo transfer.

These treatments are based on protocols used in clinical trials, which showed an increase in pregnancy rates in some groups of women (those for whom the expected pregnancy rate is 30% or less.

    Schedule:

    • before or after transfer – one treatment
    • before and after transfer – two treatments

Treatment is the day before or the day of the embryo transfer to eliminate the fallopian tube and uterine contractions and promote general relaxation. On-site treatment at the fertility clinic, before and after the embryo transfer, has improved success rates by 40%. These treatments were designed for research, and it is not necessarily true that acupuncture must be done directly before and after transfer to have the desired effect. It is believed that acupuncture benefits last many hours and days after treatment and that sessions preceding or following treatments are just as beneficial. We can discuss what the best choice is for your case.

Acupuncture can be used to manage any side effects you might experience and reduce anxiety. These treatment protocols are based on the clinical experience of many acupuncturists and their patients. Reduced fatigue, moodiness, abdomen swelling, discomfort and other side effects are reported by many women using acupuncture during their IVF cycle. In addition, women report greater relaxation and control of anxiety. The acupuncture treatment will differ for each patient and depends on your symptoms. These treatments can be combined with Schedule 2 above.

    Schedule:

1 – 2 treatments per week as needed.

IVF patients are advised to undergo an acupuncture treatment after egg collection to reduce local tissue trauma and bleeding and to prepare a calm environment for the embryo. This treatment can be combined with Schedule 2 or 3 above.

    Schedule:

After the procedure itself or within two days of the procedure, you will receive one treatment.

These treatments are similar to schedule 2, which increases blood flow to the uterus to increase implantation and pregnancy rates.

    Schedule:

Two treatments per week for 2 – 4 weeks before embryo transfer plus therapy on the day of transfer

Acupuncture treatment applied four weeks before the due date for delivery has been shown to reduce medical induction and emergency caesarian rates. It also has been shown to encourage cervical ripening and shorten labour time.

    Schedule:

One treatment per week from week 36 of pregnancy

    Treatment for men for IVF

These treatments are based on protocols used in clinical trials, which demonstrate increased sperm motility and decreased abnormal forms after acupuncture.

    Schedule:

Two treatments per week in the 5 – 6 weeks before IVF

These treatments rely on protocols used in clinical trials which investigated men whose semen had no sperm and would require testicular biopsy as part of the IVF procedures. This trial showed that the production of sperm, easily detectable in the semen, occurred in half of the men treated with acupuncture. These sperm could then be used in IVF/ICSI cycles, and TESE avoided.

    Schedule:

Two treatments per week in the 5 – 6 weeks before IVF

Sometimes the pressure to produce sperm on the day of egg collection can be significant enough to cause a problem. Acupuncture reduces anxiety and can increase blood flow to the genital area.

    Schedule:

    One treatment before sperm donation
